Oracle Principal Database Engineer, Oracle SaaS in Salt Lake City, Utah

What you will do:

The SaaS Continuity Engineering team is responsible for the design and build of the systems and services that enables Oracle to deliver industry-leading availability and performance objectives for Oracle’s SaaS services. The team architects and develops high-availability and service continuity solutions across the entire stack – infrastructure, database, platform, and application services – and all the dependent components. The engineering innovations enable SaaS services to be available to customers without any disruptions during any small or large-scale incidents. We are building the next-gen service continuity solutions in a fast-pace and innovative environment and looking a Principle Database Engineer who can design and develop systems to operate Oracle Database service at cloud scale with maximum availability and performance.

As a Principle Database Engineer you will ensure that the database services for our SaaS services are designed and built with the highest level of availability, performance and resiliency. You will collaborate with other engineering teams responsible for architecting, designing, and implementing SaaS Services and underlying database platform in a distributed cloud environment. The ideal candidate will be technically strong and must have deep understanding of Oracle Database and Exadata technology operating at a large-scale deployment. This role will drive the technical architecture of our service continuity solutions, contribute to the product strategy, and contribute to the development of next generation availability and resiliency features for Oracle’s SaaS cloud environment.

Responsibilities

  • BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience

  • 8+ years extensive experience operating large scale Oracle Database deployments

  • Strong experience with cloud infrastructure and networking technology

  • Extensive experience in Oracle Database, Exadata, Grid Infrastructure, ASM & RAC

  • Experience In Oracle Maximum Availability Architecture & Best Practices for Oracle Database & Exadata

  • Experience in high availability & replication technologies (Dataguard, Goldengate)

  • Advanced scripting/coding skills (Shell, Perl and Python)

  • Experience in building highly available and fault tolerant services

  • Experience with production operations and troubleshooting complex issues

  • Able to effectively communicate technical ideas verbally and in writing

  • Understand the end-to-end configuration, technical dependencies, and overall behavioral characteristics of production services

  • Comfortable optimally in a collaborative, agile development environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience developing and operating services on a public cloud platform (Examples: AWS, Azure, GCP, Oracle)

  • Extensive experience with Oracle Database and Exadata

  • Understanding of distributed computing and cloud-based platforms

  • Experience and understanding of cloud infrastructure services, regions, and multi-AD designs

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment

Range and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated locations only

US: Hiring Range: from $94,200 to $223,500 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

  8. Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
