The General Accounting Manager position is in the Regulatory Accounting & Analysis division within the Controller’s Department of Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Finance Organizational Unit. You will be leading a small staff responsible for application of technical skills and expertise in general and/or regulatory accounting. Also, perform and analyze accounting transactions, develop financial reports, financial statements, perform budget and comparative fluctuation analysis, and solve other accounting-related problems. The Accounting Manager will recommend and implement process improvements to refine business processes and drive efficiencies.

The areas covered by the Regulatory Accounting & Analysis include, but are not limited to, the following areas of accounting:

  • Accounting for regulatory balancing and memo accounts including accounting for FERC Formula Rate revenue requirements.

  • Customer revenue accounting and reporting.

  • Accounting for nuclear fuel and Catalina fuel activities.

  • Regulatory reporting (FERC, CPUC, DOE).

  • Reviewing and interpreting regulatory agency advice letters and decisions and assessing financial and accounting impacts.

  • A deep understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and has the ability to resolve and document appropriate accounting conclusions. Interpret and apply GAAP and regulatory decisions in recording of transactions, documenting accounting policies, as well as providing accounting guidance to various operating units and assessing impact to the financial statements.

  • Lead team responsible for accounting analysis, variance analysis and flux analysis and for providing sound explanations as required. Approve journal entries and ensure required documentation is maintained.

  • Coordinate and support accounting to implement CPUC General Rate Case (GRC) decision.

  • Support recorded cost information for CPUC regulatory proceedings.

The Essentials

  • Five or more years of combined experience performing or supervising accounting functions.

  • Experience in researching, interpreting and applying GAAP to complex accounting transactions.

The Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in accounting or related field.

  • Certified Public Accountant.

  • Experience in a public accounting firm and/or regulated utility.

  • Proficiency with SAP or similar enterprise software.

You should know

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
