The Autonomy and Command & Control Battle Management (C2BM) is seeking a talented Associate Director of Systems Engineering to lead a cross functional team supporting proprietary autonomous programs.

Autonomy and C2BM is a newly formed Collins Aerospace business with a vision to be defense industry leaders in command and control, battle management and developers and integrators of collaborative autonomy to extend the reach, survivability, and lethality of the humans across the all-domain, JADC2-enabled battlespace. The candidate will have the opportunity to leverage industry best practice Digital Engineering product development lifecycles and lead a team development autonomy technology in ways that have never been done before.

The candidate will be expected to work with engineers, customers, and leadership to turn ideas into reality and to help carry the future of the Autonomy Business into a sustainable value stream. The leader that fills this position will be responsible for tactical execution of programs, performance management, employee development, talent acquisition/retention, and strategic support of the business. This position will also be a leader of leaders which means the ideal candidate will have a proven track record of coaching and mentoring other managers just starting their leadership of people journey.

This position may require travel (up to 15%). Position requires that candidate has a final US DoD security clearance today, or ability to obtain a final security clearance (US Citizenship is required) to access classified information.

This is an onsite position and can be located in Fort Wayne, IN or McKinney, TX.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Executive level communication skills are required, to work within and across mission area programs to be successful and serves as the single point of contact for Engineering activities. Work to influence others regarding discipline's practices, concepts, and approaches. Requires ability to communicate with executive leaders on mission area strategic and tactical initiatives. The position also requires the ability to inspire and influence the program team to achieve the desired results.

  • Experience in program management activities, including working knowledge of Earned Value Management System (EVMS). Candidate must be able to guide team members on the management of scope, schedule, and budget for engineering design activities; candidate will be directly involved in project management and execution, including Earned Value and Risk Management.

  • Experience Managing a large team comprised of experienced professionals to develop new products, processes, standards or operational plans in support of the program.

  • Communicating with program stakeholders and customers to drive customer deliverables on-schedule.

  • Broad experience working front end of the business activities, leading engineering development efforts, and managing progressively larger and more complex engineering efforts.

  • Experience working effectively in highly collaborative environments, a demonstrated ability to take ownership of tasks and lead technical efforts spanning multiple stakeholders and be able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization as well as customers.

  • This position requires an individual that can perform with minimal direct supervisory support. As such the candidate must be highly motivated and a self-starter.

  • The ability to coordinate several complex engineering activities while balancing priorities and schedules.

  • Experienced mentor giving guidance, direction and holding individuals accountable for deliverables in their domain area.

  • Continuously improve the performance of the team through development of staff. This includes assigning resources to projects, setting and evaluating goals, coaching and management of compensation, recognition, and awards.

  • The candidate will collaborate across programs and engineering teams to identify efficiencies, share resources, and support the development of best practices, necessitating an ability to clearly communicate objectives and status to audiences with varying degrees of understanding of the products and technology.

  • The candidate will be required to understand and manage both customer and IR&D funded projects.

  • Decision Making - The candidate must demonstrate sound decision-making skills, strategic thinking, networking skills, and the ability to accurately forecast resource needs.

  • Personnel Administration - candidates must be able to perform hiring, performance assessment, management of personnel issues, and create a highly engaged and motivated team.

  • Present staffing plans and software execution plans to program leadership.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally to support customer events, and related external activities.

Qualifications/ Experience Needed:

  • 12+ years of work-related experience with Systems and Software Engineering.

  • Knowledge of open standards SW development requirements.

  • Knowledge and experience in DevSecOps best practices.

  • Experience working in Science and Technology environments where requirements are not well defined.

  • Experience in proposals and projects execution leadership role that included responsibility for scope, schedule, and budget management.

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 16 years of relevant experience

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current/Active US Security Clearance

  • Experience working on Autonomous Collaborative Platforms and/or sUAS autonomy programs for Army, Navy, and/or Air Force customers.

  • Domain knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Network Communications, Datalinks and Platform Integration.

  • Knowledge of OMS-based architectures.

  • Experience operating within Industry Consortiums

  • Master of Science degree (M.S.) in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math, Physics or related field.

The salary range for this role is 143,000 USD - 287,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
