Job Description

A Manager in the IT PMO has the primary responsibilities of: leading and developing a team of Project Managers, Business Analysts and Scrum Masters; ensuring the successful management and delivery of complex IT projects (e.g., software development and implementation) and programs; supporting budgeting, contract and vendor management practices; supporting Pilot’s agile maturity objectives; developing, communicating, and executing on IT PMO standards, processes, deliverables, and services; leading and supporting various portfolio planning, management, and reporting needs; and building strong relationships.

  1. Hire, coach, and oversee the career development of IT PMO team members including holding regular one on one meetings, leading team meetings, building training and skills development curriculum, and conducting performance reviews

  2. Lead and support the refinement and maturity of Pilot’s project and program management practice

  3. Lead and support the refinement and maturity of Pilot’s business analysis practice

  4. Guide complex IT programs and projects through governance and gating processes from inception and prioritization through deployment, measurement, and support

  5. Ensure ongoing understanding, alignment, and communication of the IT PMO’s standards, practices, and processes with all leaders and stakeholders

  6. Review contracts, proposals, budgets, requests, and other data to determine funding and staffing requirements, and be accountable for fulfilling those requirements

  7. Partner with the leaders of Pilot’s budgeting, contract, and vendor management practices; champion and contribute to the advancement of those practices

  8. Work closely with Product Management leaders and IT Solutions Owners

  9. Support the refinement and maturity of Pilot’s agile practices

  10. Collaborate regularly with other PMO Managers, the Director of the PMO, and other leaders to produce new or improved standards, processes, deliverables, and strategic ways of working within the PMO as well as with leaders and stakeholders

  11. Support or lead enterprise portfolio management and value realization activities to ensure alignment of the IT PMO with Pilot Company’s key objectives and strategies

  12. Proactively build strong interpersonal relationships with IT, product, and business leaders, and support them in various ways including creating and delivering reports and presentations, as well as building processes, setting up environments, and fulfilling activities to achieve collaborative decision-making

  13. Complete other duties and lead other initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (e.g., business management, information technology, computer science, project management, etc.) required

  • Minimum five years’ IT project management experience required

  • Minimum three years’ proven team leadership experience required

  • Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification, held for a minimum of three years, preferred

  • Experience in digital product development and/or retail or fuel industries preferred

  • Project Management Institute Agile Certified Professional (PMI-ACP®) Certification preferred

  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) certification preferred

  • Certified Change Management ProfessionalTM (CCMPTM) or other organizational change management certification preferred

Specialized Knowledge

  • Experience with software development lifecycle (SDLC) management

  • Experience with software development frameworks such as Scrum and Kanban

  • Experience with project management tools such as Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet, and MS Project

  • Skilled with Microsoft 365 products such as PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, OneDrive, Teams, and SharePoint
