Research & Development Engineering Intern

Numerical Error Analysis

Siemens Industry Software Inc. and Portland State University have collaborated to offer an exciting opportunity for a Research & Development (R&D) Engineering Internship focused on the study of numerical error propagation in the FFTW library used in our software. This position involves generating an analysis report and devising a numerical error mitigation strategy, contributing directly to the advancement of Siemens Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools.

This internship is specifically designed for a Ph.D. candidate in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science who is familiar with numerical error analysis approaches. The candidate will work closely with Siemens EDA's sponsored research team at Portland State University, offering a unique blend of academic research and practical application in an industrial setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth research on the numerical error propagation of the FFTW library utilized within Siemens EDA tools.

  • Collaborate with Siemens EDA's team and Portland State University's faculty to understand application requirements and error impact.

  • Generate a comprehensive analysis report detailing the findings of the numerical error propagation study.

  • Develop and propose a robust numerical error mitigation strategy based on research findings.

  • Present research outcomes to Siemens EDA's R&D team and academic peers at Portland State University, facilitating knowledge transfer and implementation of findings.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled as a Ph.D. candidate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.

  • Demonstrated experience and familiarity with numerical error analysis approaches.

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently on complex research projects.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.

  • Prior experience with the FFTW library or similar computational tools is highly desirable.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with both Siemens EDA's team and academic faculty at Portland State University.

  • The candidate identified for continued research is highly preferred for this internship position.

The hourly range for this position is $22.00 to $50.00 for technical roles or $18.00 to $44.00 for non-technical positions. Siemens offers a variety of health and wellness benefits to employees.
