Our mission-driven team is seeking an Experienced Test Facilities Engineer - Mechanical who is fueled by troubleshooting, problem-solving, continuous curiosity, a drive to understand our world, science/technology, and life itself, all for the benefit of humankind on Earth and beyond.

This position has multiple job openings (and may be filled at multiple levels).

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support efforts to set-up and maintain at least some of the following testing capabilities: Thermal and TVAC chambers, Shock and Vibration tables, Shakers, EMI/EMC chambers, Pressure systems, Modal and Static Load assemblies, or other pieces of test equipment.

  • Lead a team of engineers, contractors, consultants, and technicians in the execution of test facilities projects (maintenance or readiness).

  • Work with Cryogenic, High-Vacuum or High-Pressure Systems, or their subcomponents.

  • Develop technical specifications, Statements of Work (SOW),Work Authorizing Documents (WAD), Task Preparation Sheets (TPS) to track all phases of procurement, inspection, fabrication & installation into the facility and test systems.

  • Read and interpret PI&D, mechanical and electrical diagrams and schematics, and general test requirements from customers to design test solutions.

  • Troubleshoot and solve test equipment issues (leak, mechanical or electrical).

  • Manage the design, development, and issuance of drawings, documentation, and reports for test facility projects.

  • Support and maintain configuration and configuration control of test facilities systems, such as: Compressed air, chilled cooling tower, vacuum, Liquid Nitrogen, Nitrogen and Helium Systems).

  • Collaborate with design engineers for Test Support Equipment (TSE) development.

  • Work with engineers, test directors, contractors and customers on test planning, scheduling, preparation, readiness, and execution.

  • Perform Job Hazard Analysis.

  • Lead initiatives to help define test workflows, documentation, processes, and procedures.

  • Adhere to appropriate safety, quality, and environmental practices, as well as business ethics practices.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, aerospace, electrical or related discipline).

  • Master’s Degree in a STEM field, preferred.

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience related to installation and maintenance of engineering facilities.

Experience

Experience in two or more of the following areas is strongly desired. Your application will be considered even if you do not have experience in all areas.

  • Setting-up and maintaining some of the following test capabilities: Thermal and TVAC chambers, Shock and Vibration tables, Shakers, EMI/EMC chambers, Pressure systems, Modal and Static Load assemblies, or other pieces of test equipment.

  • Hazardous system design, construction, or maintenance such as oxygen / hydrogen / nitrogen systems, high-pressure systems or high-vacuum systems.

  • Managing the upkeep of mechanical equipment (such as pumps, motors, blowers, valves, etc.) related to facility maintenance.

  • Setting-up and maintaining cooling systems: air-blower, sprayed-water, or chilled-water.

  • Bulk LN2 supply systems design, set-up, or maintenance.

  • Testing of space-related hardware components or systems (flight or non-flight).

  • Using 2D/3D modeling software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, or Rhino.

  • Familiar with LabVIEW, Simatic, Scada systems or PLC programming.

  • Familiar with National Electric Code, ASHRAE, National Fire Protection Association, or International Building Code.

  • Familiar with Government or commercial spaceflight programs.

  • Project management - agile/scrum methodologies (preferred).

  • High and low voltage DC and AC systems operation and installation (preferred).

Work Environment: Generally, the work will be split between the office and lab environment, but can involve outside work depending on the task.

Requirements

  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.

  • This position requires to be in-person in Houston, TX ( not remote or hybrid ).

Physical Requirements

  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).

  • This job requires working with energized electrical and mechanical equipment.

  • Should be able to kneel, and go up and down ladders to work on equipment and machines.

  • Should be able to work with standard office equipment (laptop, printer, etc.)

Skills

  • Multitasker: Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.

  • Comfortable working with high-voltage, high-pressure and high-vacuum systems.

  • Electro-Mechanical aptitude.

  • Use of hand tools, multimeter, oscilloscope.

  • Strong adherence to safety practices.

  • Strong attention to detail while appreciating the bigger picture of the complex and ambitious projects that we take on.

  • Excellent people skills.
