Thornton Tomasetti, Inc., seeks Senior Engineers - Applied Science in New York, NY. •Performs advanced analysis and research on engineering problems which may include, but are not limited to: acoustics, wave propagation, blast, shock, impact, nonlinear mechanical, computational fluid dynamics, thermal, and coupled fields.•Analyzes structures and designs or retrofits structural elements to resist extreme events such as blasts, impact or penetration.•Communicates and coordinates with clients and consultants (e.g., architects and civil/mechanical/electrical engineers) to ensure clear understanding of project goals and expectations.•Researches and interprets applicable codes and standards.•Coordinates and guides preparation of construction documents with BIM staff, clients, and internal quality staff.•Spot-checks calculations and back-checks plan mark-ups and completed drafting.•Prepares engineering reports resulting from investigations.•Analyzes field or laboratory tests Develops software to assist with assigned projects.•Develops analysis tools such as algorithms, standalone software, and commercial software plugins for projects.•Develops software to create new standards for modeling and simulation.•Develops graphical interfaces Performs other functions as needed.•Guides more junior employees on various design techniques and on TT design standards, codes and software applications.•Develops drawings and spreadsheets to create new standards.•Acts responsibly to conserve energy and reduce waste in the office environment.•Obtains and maintains professional certifications (e.g. PE)Requires a Master’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or a related field plus 2 years of related experience. Requires 2 years of experience conducting advanced computational analyses and calculations for the design and evaluation of structural and mechanical systems, including both linear and non-linear Finite Element Analysis (FEA); 2 years of experience utilizing finite element (FE) software packages including ABAQUS FEA, ANSYS, or LS-DYNA; 2 years of experience conducting comprehensive analyses in the field of mechanical and FEA simulation, with a focus on residual stresses and crack growth behavior in metal alloys. This includes material characterization, residual stress analysis, dynamic mechanics, fatigue, and fracture mechanics while providing detailed calculations to evaluate the structure's behavior under these varying loadings and conditions; 2 years of experience designing and performing mechanical tests on structural components, encompassing a wide range of laboratory and computational experiments, including hardness measurements, uniaxial tensile testing, and fatigue and fracture testing using mechanical testing instruments including Instron Universal Testing Machines, in accordance with ASTM standards; 2 years of experience in destructive/non-destructive testing, fracture analysis, strength assessment, and evaluation of inelastic behavior; 2 years of experience writing expert analysis reports focusing on simplifying complicated engineering concepts including new designs and root cause analysis due to loading, cycling loading (fatigue), and manufacturing defects on structural elements in industrial and transportation systems including steels made from different grade of materials; 2 years of experience transferring design information from calculations to structural drawings, and reviewing technical drawings; 2 years of experience verifying calculations performed by other engineers, documenting technical work, and preparing written reports by summarizing key results; 2 years of experience assisting in the coordination, direction, planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering projects; and 2 years of experience communicating with clients to understand project requirements, and supporting planning and organizing project staff according to project requirements.40 hours/week. The compensation for this role is at least $122,000 per year. Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of factors, including but not limited to skills, experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
