Thermal Systems HVAC Component Engineer

HVAC component design and quality are key to Ford. As the company transitions to fewer prototype vehicles, increased CAE predictions, in addition to multiple new platforms and new technology, the focus on HVAC design to delivery customer attributes is important. The number of recent HVAC related issues has highlighted the need for an increased focus and specialization in this area.

In this position...

Design new HVACs on future ford vehicle models. Work closely with the studio and have impact on design of vehicles. Opportunity to interface with a lot of components of the vehicle. Have ownership with the foundation documents for the projects.

What you'll do...

  • Support creation and maintenance of the Core Engineering Documents (FMA Documents, Requirements and Test Procedures, etc.)

  • Support Technical Design Reviews for System/Subsystem/Component

  • Lead design and development of new HVAC with Full Service Suppliers.

  • Signoff of Component design verification (DV) and Production Verification (PV) results from full service suppliers.

  • Problem Solving – Launch, Recall, Quality / Field Issues

  • Collaborate with vehicle architecture, body, electrical and vehicle attribute and applications teams to develop HVAC designs to meet customer requirements.

  • Understand upfront design, verification plan and methods, and industrialization process.

  • Ability to analyze customer quality/ warranty concerns.

  • Interface with Thermal Subsystems teams (Air Handling & Air conditioning Subsystem teams).

  • Interface with supplier technical assistance and purchasing teams.

  • Support HVAC lab testing at MPG facility as needed.

  • Review Supplier Request for Engineering approval for manufacturing changes with robust production verification plan.

  • support institutionalizing prevent recurrence actions across programs.

  • Can speak with confidence and authority but is humble and collaborative in leading a technical

You'll have...

  • 5 years of experience in climate control HVAC component design development.

  • Master of Engineering (electrical, mechanical, physics, systems, etc.) preferred.

  • Proven history of design and verification directly related to HVAC component.

Even better, you may have...

  • Knowledge of thermal systems components

  • Knowledge of injection molding design principals and manufacturing experience.

  • Knowledge of/experience with HVAC physical testing and CFD/CAE.

  • Ability to interface and align cross functional team of people that do not directly report to the same department.

  • Ability to institutionalize the key factors and lessons learned through documentation (design rules, requirements, technical design guides, etc.) and to teach associated learning sessions.

  • Ability to form an opinion, communicate it effectively at all levels, and drive the company in a winning direction.

This position is a range of salary grades SG7 - SG8 .
