Job Summary/Objective:
The Specifications Engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing Southwire product design standards,
work instructions, procedures and knowledge-based documentation supporting the company specification engineering
order entry and quotation business processes for Industrial Wire & Cable (W&C) products. The candidate will
coordinate specification activities in support of Product Development’s projects consisting of new product
introductions, cost out and maintenance of line programs. This role will involve collaborating closely cross-functionally
with the Business Units, Sales, Operations, R&D and IT to develop and implement efficient business processes
improving speed and accuracy while managing the increased demand and complexity of the connected enterprise
systems, and the company’s digital transformation strategy.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide technical direction and support to the Specifications team during the engineering quote (ENGQ)
and product design management (PDM) processes to confirm manufacturing capabilities, bills of materials
(BOM), compliance and formulate technical exceptions and clarifications for engineered-to-order requests
• Facilitate Management of Change (MoC) and act as Change Coordinator for engineering Change Requests
related to BOM’s and Specifications for Industrial W&C products
• Collaborate closely with the CableBuilder, Product Development, Operations and Product Management
teams to ensure specification requirements and attributes of new products introduced are identified,
documented, and communicated properly through the company’s cable design & ERP systems. Ensure a
smooth transition in the hand over process from new product development engineers to the specification
engineers
• Develop and update work instructions, standard operating procedures, design guides and other
specifications documentation to ensure standardized cable design processes and minimize errors
• Collect and organize technical information to map product offering boundaries and document
manufacturing capabilities or limitations in support of the specification engineering new part creation
process
• Review and interpret W&C Industry Standards, certifications, product regulatory listings, and customer
specifications providing problem solving support for specification-related issues, sales inquiries and the
development of configurable models and specification templates
Education, Experience, and Skills
Required
Minimum Education Level: Bachelor's
Specialized Degree: Science or related technical field

Certificates: Microsoft Office, CableBuilder, SAP or JIRA. Working knowledge of Wire & Cable products, Industry Standards (UL, CSA, ICEA, ASTM, etc.) and associated manufacturing processes & the cable materials involved. Lean Six-Sigma training and certification.
