Delaware North Data Engineer, TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts

The Opportunity

The Boston Bruins and TD Garden seek a technical professional to join our dynamic data-driven department. The Data Engineer will support a group that is responsible for strategy and business intelligence across all facets of the business side of an NHL team and venue; accordingly, this role encompasses responsibilities of both a data analytics and strategic nature.

Specifically, this individual will be responsible for writing and maintaining various automation scripts, ETL pipelines, and technical workflows across multiple environments, while also continually seeking opportunities to implement improvements across these tools. In this role, the Data Engineer will scope out and build new integrations while also handling a number of day-to-day automated reports. The ideal candidate for this role will have a robust technical background, advanced analytical skills, a solid understanding of data architecture, and be willing to dig deep into relevant databases to resolve problems, identify key trends, and leverage data to drive towards insights. This individual will play a pivotal role in this group’s delivery of value to the TD Garden, the Boston Bruins, and Delaware North, from a position with opportunities for growth and professional development.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with large sets of data and the underlying technologies that empower its analysis. The ideal candidate will also have experience leveraging technology and programming to automate data ingest and standardization, and will be familiar with concepts such as data architecture design, visualizations and dashboards, statistical analysis, and sports business.

Pay

Minimum – Anticipated Maximum Base Salary: $56800 - $76700 / year

In addition to base salary, we offer an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based, uncapped sales incentive plan. The advertised pay range represents what we believe at the time of this job posting, that we would be willing to pay for this position. Only in special circumstances, where a candidate has education, training, or experience that far exceeds the requirements for the position, would we consider paying higher than the stated range. Responsibilities

  • Working with the existing team, devise and implement approaches connect various data sources to the data warehouse in order to automate processes across business units

  • Assist with MDM and ETL processes utilizing knowledge of relational databases, data modeling, SQL, and integration development, assuring that relevant processes adhere to data quality and accessibility standards

  • Write ETL processes, designing database systems, and developing tools for real-time analytics processing

  • Use programming skills (e.g. Python) to build robust data pipelines, architectures, datasets, and dynamic systems

  • Work with data warehouse vendor to ensure data timeliness and accuracy while identifying new sources for integration

  • Design, implement, and execute detailed plans to maintain existing and develop new technical code, not only preserving current-state parameters, but also refining processes as business objectives are executed

  • Research relevant industry-accepted best practices, for both design and documentation, and ensure future states adhere to these standards (with adequate documentation of various processes and data flows)

  • Maintain advanced knowledge of software/database best practices, and make recommendations on improvement of data systems

  • Own and track the organization’s data architecture, balancing various priorities to determine cost- and effort-effective approaches to optimize various connected products and platforms

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Business Analytics, Mathematics, or related analytical field (or equivalent experience).

  • 1 - 3 years of work experience in technical environments

  • Advanced technical skillset including R, Python, SQL, with a preference for those functions at a prior employer or project within the Media, Entertainment, and Sports industry

  • Advanced SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases as well as familiarity with a variety of database technologies (e.g. PostgreSQL, Redshift)

  • Extensive experience of ETL development, processes, and pipelines including data administration, manipulation, data pipeline engineering, data processing automation, data validation, and data preparation

  • Ability to automate data pipelines using cloud technologies such as AWS and/or GCP

  • Experience in integrating many different RESTful API’s into a central data warehouse

  • Professional experience of data engineering methodologies such as data lakes, data warehouses, etc.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze sophisticated problems and devise creative, but practical solutions.

  • Ability and desire to be part of a fast-paced environment with changing projects and priorities.

  • Highly resourceful and disciplined, with strong emotional intelligence and self-motivation.

  • Comfort with and disciplined to manage highly sensitive confidential information.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
