Job Description:

The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is accepting applications for the Business Administrator I to provide Support to the Office of Research and Graduate Studies. The College has a significant research enterprise primarily associated with health of animals and humans. In this role, the qualified candidate will work heavily with a variety of research focused faculty and staff with administrative support, Research Program Support and Event Planning:

Administrative Support:

  • Serve as Cost Center manager for the Office of Research and Graduate Studies

  • Monthly Faculty Research meetings: Schedule, promote, secure speakers, create agenda

  • Process department requests

  • Run monthly reports

Research Program Support:

  • Financial Reporting

  • Release internal Call for Proposals, Proposal review, ranking, and award letters

  • Participate in the training workshops and networking events for Faculty Research Development

  • Support the Summer Scholar Research Program with securing of funds, tracking student data, documentation, travel, stipends and other scheduling.

Event Planning:

  • Coordinate venue, food and registration for CVM Research Activities

  • Outreach to grad students and postdocs to present and participate in college events

  • Coordinate travel arrangements for guest speaker

Example of Duties

• Represents the department on business affairs and/or faculty affairs to the institution community.

• Monitors and interprets operational policies and procedures in areas such as information technology, communications, and facilities.

• Prepares budgets and financial reports for grants, general appropriations, endowments, and other funds.

• Assists in establishing financial and operational systems to monitor, control, and verify expenditures and carry out financial analysis.

• Manages day-to-day operational needs of a department.

• May assist with employment business needs such as hiring of students, timekeeping responsibilities, and scheduling.

• May supervise students.

Level Guidelines• Individual contributor position with developing professional and/or technical skills working under immediate to general supervision• Grasps professional-level knowledge and concepts of field while working in a progressive learning mode• Works on problems and issues of somewhat limited scope• Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data for which answers are available or can be obtained• Responds to inquiries and issues, escalating to manager or higher level workers as appropriate• May lead projects of limited scope and complexity• May provide guidance to students
